Kerry to concede? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
What happened to this?
John Kerry and I made a promise to the American people that in this election every vote would count and every vote would be counted. Tonight we are keeping our word and we will fight for every vote. You deserve no less. (John Edwards, last night)
Too bloody right we deserve no less. Neither Florida nor Ohio, for all that the talking heads have called both, are decided yet, nor will be for nearly two weeks as the provisional and absentee ballots are counted.
Don’t do this, Senator! To concede before the last vote is counted would be to betray everyone who has supported you. I don’t trust CNN any more than I trust Karl Rove himself, so I’ll wait for the announcement before I turn and savage you. Don’t you let us down like that!
11:20am: you fucking bastard. You whore, you traitor, you spineless maggot. You bent over with barely a whimper for a grasping soulless empty-hearted meat puppet and the countless robber barons and apocalyptic lunatics whose red right hands are firmly jammed up his pliant asshole. You hucked up a stinking loogy and spat right in the faces of the poor, the gay and the non-white, to say nothing of women the world over, the Iraqi people or the many who stood with you and behind you and beneath you and lifted you up with time and money they could ill afford.
I will never forgive you for this, John Kerry.
Christopher Reeve is dead (NYT obit) at 52, nine years after he broke his neck in a riding accident. He went from a charmed life to quadriplegia in the blink of an eye, but he never lost hope. He turned his personal tragedy into a new purpose, becoming a spokesman for the disabled, an activist and lobbyist on behalf of spinal cord research and an inspiration to all. I was looking forward to watching him walk again, dammit. If you can spare it, may I suggest a small donation in his memory?
Jesus sickening Christ. Human beings don’t get much more debased than this before they stop being human at all. Warning: horrifying photographs featuring marines smiling and giving the thumbs-up as they pose with the body of a man beaten to death by civilian “interrogators”.
According to testimony from Spc. Jason Kenner, obtained by ABCNEWS, the man was brought to the prison by U.S. Navy SEALs in good health. Kenner said he saw extensive bruising on the detainee’s body when he was brought out of the showers, dead.
Kenner says the body was packed in ice during a “battle” between CIA and military interrogators over who should dispose of the body.
And as for “RIP”, well, that’s just a thing you say because you have to say something. Dead is dead, and there is no such thing as a God or an afterlife. Mr al-Jamadi is gone; it is to his family and friends that my heart goes out. May they find some kind of peace.
The unholy clusterfuck in Iraq makes me want to puke every time I think about it. I literally cannot imagine how Iraqis must feel, but I’m pretty sure I know what they want right now. River, whom you should be reading regularly, puts it this way:
I sometimes get emails asking me to propose solutions or make suggestions. Fine. Today’s lesson: don’t rape, don’t torture, don’t kill and get out while you can- while it still looks like you have a choice… Chaos? Civil war? Bloodshed? We
Laughter is bereaved, but sadly it’s not snobbery that died. Too damn early at 82, Sir Peter Ustinov is dead.
I am terribly sad. The world is a much, much poorer place today.
